Introduction
~~~~~~~~~~
MAC CGM Converter consists of two applications to convert between binary encoded Computer Graphic Metafiles (CGM's) and Apple Macintosh graphics file formats (PICT/PICT2 files).
The CGM to PICT application converts CGM files (originally created on another type of computer) to PICT/PICT2 format, so that Macintosh graphics applications can display and edit the picture.
The PICT to CGM application converts PICT/PICT2 files to the binary encoded CGM format. This CGM file can be transferred to other computers and used with CGM compatible graphics applications.
The copy of the MAC CGM Converter package that you are evaluating should include -
• This document describing MAC CGM Converter.
• recognises CANVAS 3.0 CGM file types (creator type CGMF).
• fixed program crash on system error alert before conversion commences (change the folder on the "Save as" command).
• the "Save as" command correctly saves files in the correct folder/disk specified.
• Performance improvements.
• includes additional command alignment checks - previously errors could occur with Harvard Graphics 3.0 CGM's .
• includes support for Freelance Plus polygon fill patterns.
• interpretation of CGM's using real number coordinates now has the default plot size correctly specified (required for Nova*GKS CGM's).
• Support for the pattern fill type when filling polygons.
Additional features available in PICT to CGM version 2.0 include -
• Performance improvements.
• Converts Macintosh fill patterns to CGM pattern tables.
• includes the conversion of Macintosh bit-map and pixel-map images to the CGM cell array primitive.
Provided that the graphics system on the computer you are transferring the CGM supports raster images, the cell array option does an excellent job in converting images.
Even if you are using a non-color quickdraw Macintosh (a Mac Classic for example), you may convert 8-bit color PICT2 pixel-map images to a CGM containing an 8-bit color cell array.
• can interpret 32-bit quickdraw pixel-maps, currently only text decoding is allowed. Cell Array support is planned at a later stage.
• additionally supports the Chicago, New Century Schoolbook and Avant Garde text fonts in the font list.
• displays the actual number of graphic elements converted.
• converts Macintosh round rectangles (previously unsupported) to the CGM rectangle.
• supports the "balloon help" function when used with system 7.
